The Federal Government’s response to the growing threat of AI, with many experts claiming more already needs to be done above and beyond national plans.

The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering is urging the government to take immediate action to secure and localise AI technology in Australia, as the list of both domestic and foreign threats grows.

ATSE FTSE Data Engineer & Director Shazia Sadiq told Julie-anne Sprague onĀ 6PR Afternoons the necessity of localising technology so that it can be controlled locally has been overlooked.

“I think with AI we have to get on the forefront; we can’t simply be users. With these technologies that come with such high stakes, we have to be more than that,” Professor Sadiq said.
