Truck drivers have joined forces with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to spread the ever-important message of keeping safe around trucks.

Katanning truck driver Glenn “Yogi” Kendall told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons truck drivers need more space from other road users.

“We’re getting a little bit frustrated with drivers ducking and weaving and carrying on,” Mr Kendall said.

“Trucks are big and heavy, and people need to be more aware of what they’re doing on the roads.”

National Heavy Vehicle Register corporate affairs director Michelle Tayler told Julie-anne Sprague onĀ 6PR Afternoons there’s a worrying amount of complacency being shown by drivers.

“There needs to be more thought put towards how to use the road safely with trucks,” Ms Tayler said.

“For instance when a truck is trying to get around a roundabout and drivers are using that opportunity to dash around them.

“They’re not realising that that truck driver might need more than one lane to get through the roundabout safely.”
