6PR listener Nick emailed the program about how WA’s new fire danger rating system – moderate, high, very high and catastrophic – will impact outdoor cooking this summer.

He said DFES now recommended not using solid fuel cooking appliances like pizza ovens and offset smokers once the FDR hits high.

DFES Rural Fire Division executive director Murray Carter says under the four-rating system, the new category of high is similar to the old rating of very high.

“When the conditions are high end … then embers can leave those appliances and the property,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
