WA’s camel milk industry to extend into baby formula with $4.4 million grant

Good Earth Dairy is WA’s first commercial camel milk producer, selling to various supermarkets around the state.
It runs with 160 camels on an 800-hectare property but with $4.4 million in a state government grant, the company will expand into producing infant formula.
Stephen Geppert told Jamie on Weekends while he was travelling across the Australian desert for one year with two camels, he was struck by how many wild camels he saw roving about.
“It’s really slow to build up a herd of thousands of camels… so there’s a system in place that pulls wild camels and trains them to be calm milking camels,” he said.
Camels milk is significantly lower in saturated fat than cow’s milk and doesn’t curdle which makes it easier for adults and babies to digest.
