Queensland is set to relax its approach to minor drug offences such as the possession of ice and marijuana and there are calls for Western Australia to follow.

Under the proposed changes, those caught possessing small amounts of drugs would only be given a warning.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ specific interests addictions medicine chair Dr Hester Wilson told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live sending people to jail doesn’t do any good.

“There is no benefit to someone using… for them to go through the criminal justice system,” said Dr Wilson.
