The West Australian Football League has decided to scrap the bounce for the 2023 season, saying it’s a “barrier” to equitable umpire development.

West Australian Football Commission executive Scott Baker told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the league was looking to expand their umpire base, and the hours umps spent on practicing bounces was limiting.

“We’ve got some really ambitious targets within our strategy plan around increasing umpire numbers, particularly female umpires,” Mr Baker said.
