WAFL bins the bounce: is this the sign of something bigger?

The West Australian Football League has decided to scrap the bounce for the 2023 season, saying it’s a “barrier” to equitable umpire development.
West Australian Football Commission executive Scott Baker told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings the league was looking to expand their umpire base, and the hours umps spent on practicing bounces was limiting.
“We’ve got some really ambitious targets within our strategy plan around increasing umpire numbers, particularly female umpires,” Mr Baker said.
