Level two public health and social measures that come into effect across Western Australia on Thursday will leave several vulnerable industries on the brink of financial ruin and the state on the back foot in its COVID-19 recovery.

6PR Mornings host Gareth Parker said that despite being three years into the pandemic, having the highest vaccination rates of anywhere in the world, 11 people in hospital and masks already compulsory in indoor spaces, WA was preparing for a month of strict restrictions while the rest of the country and the world got on with everyday life.

“In WA we are now getting set to crank up for the most intense period of COVID-19 restrictions to be applied on an ongoing basis yet,” he said on Tuesday morning.

“Now the Premier says this will last about four weeks.

“But of course people have made plans and now those plans are disrupted.”
