WA under threat from ‘terrible’ fruit fly outbreak

A quarantine area has been announced for parts of the City of Bayswater and Belmont to help eradicate the Queensland fruit fly.
The fly native to the sunshine state poses a huge risk to local agriculture and has been found in Bayswater and Belmont.
Chief plant biosecurity officer Dr Sonya Broughton told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons an outbreak of the fly would be catastrophic for the agriculture industry.
“It would have a terrible impact,” said Dr Broughton.
