In the wake of last weekend’s storm, a treasure hunter has struck gold.

The metal-detecting hobbyist discovered a collection of historic coins in Mandurah, near the site where the Madora Bay stairs collapsed.

Bill Allerton told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that some of the coins were sitting right on the surface of the eroded sand.

“More of your goldies would be out in the water, but you can’t get out there; they’d be buried pretty deep now”, he said.
