The WA Police Union is urging officers to refuse high-speed chases, after an investigation was launched into the use of ‘boxing-in’ tactic after a 14 hour crime spree.

WA Police are investigating 26 officers over 92 alleged breaches of policy and reckless driving, relating to a pursuit that ended on the Kwinana Freeway in Hammond Park in December.

WA Police Union acting president Paul Gale told 6PR Breakfast he’s not asking members to stop doing their job.

“It’s not the end of police chases – but we need protection to do this. I can’t emphasise enough how high risk that incident was in December,” Mr Gale said.
