Is Perth about to be 20,000 houses short?

That is the projection of Real Estate Institute of WA president Damien Collins, who says WA will face the shortage within four years, amid a construction boom, as the cost of materials continue to soar, including bricks, which were now $3 to lay.

“We’re already in a housing shortage crisis… the building industry as it stands today does not have the capacity to meet the demand,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

“We’re 8000 homes from where we need to be just to get back into balance.

“This problem is coming and we need to address it now.”
