A documentary series featuring epic shipwreck stories along the WA coastline will premiere on Disney+ tonight.

The six-part Shipwreck Hunters Australia series showcases WA to an international audience while creating jobs and opportunities for locals across the state.

The group of highly-skilled divers and underwater filmmakers made up of Captain Ash Sutton, Andre Rerekura, Nush Freedman, Johnny Debnam and Ryan Chatfield join expert maritime archaeologists from the WA Museum to explore Australia’s ‘Treasure Coast’, home to an estimated 1,600 shipwrecks, to help unearth the mysteries that lie beneath.

Rerekura says there were plenty of hairy moments among the beautiful sights and surrounds under water.

“We got flogged a few times with some pretty horrific weather, big waves, like getting washed over reefs and having people picking us up on jet skis to get us out of there,” he says.
