VR to help rehab
A Perth man moved to New York to chase his dreams of combining his love of technology and medicine. He is now breaking barriers by using devices and virtual reality to help those who have suffered strokes or other physical issues to get movement and brain activity back on track.
Dr David Putrino is the Director of Telemedicine and Virtual Rehabilitation at Burke Medical Rehabilitation Institute at Westchester, New York and told Simon Beaumont he started his work in this industry when he was a physiotherapist but wanted to start tracking his patient’s exercises when they went home.
Dr Putrino is still keeping his connections to Perth strong ‘I’ve been consulting on and helping with, out at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, we have a smartphone app for kids with cystic fibrosis.’
