Victoria rosters days off for school children as WA teacher shortage crisis looms large

The skills crisis which has hit every section of the Australian economy is hurting our school classrooms.
The plan to tackle the nation’s teacher shortage prompted the Albanese Government to announce a jobs and skills summit in Canberra next month.
Business identities, union leaders, politicians and public servants will spend two days in Canberra trying to come up with solutions to the skills crisis, which has the economy in a chokehold.
WA Education Minister Sue Ellery joined other state education ministers last week in Canberra to discuss the best ways to tackle the teacher shortage ahead of next month’s summit.
“It was a good meeting, a breath of fresh air because the Commonwealth was willing to assist the states,” she said.
“We’re all at various stages on this issue Liam, my colleagues in NSW and Victoria are doing it far tougher than we are, for example I’m advised in Victoria now they are rostering cohorts of kids to do schooling at home once a week just because they don’t have enough teachers to fill classrooms, and NSW has advised they will do that as well if they need to.”
