Victim’s family outraged at guard’s profits from murderer’s handiwork
The Family of the victims of a brutal massacre in regional WA have spoken out against a scheme allowing prison guards to on-sell furniture made by inmates.
Willam Patrick Mitchell killed Karen MacKenzie and her three children with an axe in Greenough near Geraldton in 1993.
Now he makes rocking chairs along with other inmates in Bunbury, and some of these are being bought by prison officers, then sold privately at a huge mark-up.
Ms MacKenzie’s sister Evalyn told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings she was “disgusted” when she found out others were profiting from her sister’s murderer.
