Dog owners in Balcatta and surrounding suburbs are being urged to remain vigilant following a flare-up of canine parvovirus.

Mel Criddle from the Swanbourne Veterinary Centre told 6PR Drive host Jamie Burnett that the virus is highly resilient, capable of surviving in the environment for up to 18 months..

“You can innocently be walking at the park where a dog previously has had parvo, passed a bit of stool that has the virus in it and a year later you can be walking past, your dog can sniff it and then that’s how infection spreads”, Criddle said.
