Unprecedented salmon frenzies have anglers marvelling along WA’s southern coast

Simon Beaumont

Beachgoers are witnessing a spectacular event as a salmon feeding frenzy extends across the shallows along the southern coast of Western Australia, pushing salmon, herring and other species into the shallow waters.

Scott Coghlan from Western Angler magazine explains to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that anglers are seeing salmon beaching themselves, and although similar frenzies have happened before, the frequency of them is unlike other years.

“It normally happens once or twice every season, it’s happening sort of every second day at the moment, I’ve just never seen it happen this often before,” he said.
