6PR Breakfast has been flooded with listeners claiming Uber drivers are manipulating price surges in peak usage times.

‘Surge Rider’ first raised the issue with Gareth Parker on the John Hughes Rumour File this morning, with listeners quick to back up their claim.

“The suggestion is drivers are deliberately manipulating the system to create the impression that there is a shortage of drivers, to try trigger surge pricing and higher fees for all of them,” Surge Rider wrote.

One caller Pauline said her Uber trip home on Saturday night from a venue nearby in Carramar, which would normally cost about $10, had risen to $68 while she waiting for the driver to arrive.
