Kalbarri is still struggling from the effects of Cyclone Seroja that hit the popular tourist town 18 months ago.

Iconic bird park Rainbow Jungle remains closed, as does several popular restaurants and cafes, 14 businesses in total.

Kalbarri Seafood Restaurant owner Melissa Finlay told Michael Genovese on 6PR Breakfast the town still needs the state government to approve funding to build emergency accommodation so that workers can rebuild things.

“From Seroja there was 70 per cent of properties damaged and it’s a long haul to get it all fixed up,” she said.

She says workers have to leave town during school holidays because there is not enough room to house them.
