Tourism operators are concerned about the affect a deliberately lit bushfire in the Margaret River region will have on the area.

Firefighters have now contained a blaze that had been raging out-out-control since Wednesday last week, burning through almost 8000 hectares of forest.

The arson squad is continuing to investigate who is responsible.

Chair of the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association Stewart Hicks has assured the region still has much to offer this festive season.

“Margaret River region is open for business,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

“Stay, please everybody away from the forest …  but come down, join us, we want to have you here for the season.”
