Toodyay rallies for Mundairing

Article image for Toodyay rallies for Mundairing

Survivors of the 2009 Toodyay Bushfire have rallied together to help those left homeless after the Mundairing fires that destroyed over 50 homes. Toodyay residents have resurrected the Toodyay Survivors Centre to collect goods for displaced families.

Spokesperson for the centre, Melanie Pree, says the 2009 fire ‘destroyed many aspects of our community but not our community spirit.  Our fire survivors received a huge amount of support and we would like to help to give some of that back to help others.’

‘We have put together a list of items that were the cream of the crop from our own centre and are encouraging the people of Toodyay to send their donations to the shop outside our !GA in town where they will be sorted, packed and then moved to a venue in the Shire of Mundaring where our own survivors and volunteers will run a mini centre for a couple of days – date and details to be advised when we know what they are!!

We will be loading all our goodies into utes and trailers and making the trek down Toodyay Road to set up a welcoming, safe place for people to come and take away those items that have been generously offered by the people of our town.  There is a lot of healing to be done for our own survivors and the chance to give something back is so important for all of us.

The specific items ‘being sought are:
