The Manufacturing Workers Union has proposed removing the Union Jack from the Australian flag ahead of Labor’s National Conference.

AusFlag executive director Harold Scruby told 6PR Breakfast hosts Karl and Seb that he agrees the Union Jack is past its use-by date.

“When you grow up, when you become a nation, you create your own symbols; you don’t have one that looks like Mother Britain”, he said.
