Professional forester John Clarke says there will be a significant shortage of jarrah firewood should the native logging ban go ahead.

The McGowan government announced that native forest logging in Western Australia will end at the start of 2024.

Mr Clarke told Jane Marwick, filling in for Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings, there may be unintended consequences to the ban.

“A logging ban would kill off the supply of jarrah firewood, and I don’t think many people really realise that,” he said.

“Our Jarrah and Marri forests are selectively harvested … and they’re still wonderfully sustainable forests.”
