Meta – the company behind Facebook, Instagram, Threads and a swathe of other social media platforms – has blamed a three-hour disruption to their service on an internal “technical issue”.

Thousands of people worldwide were affected by the issue.

Tech journalist Alex Kidman told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast it’s probably a good time to review your online security, an activity that is becoming more and more common amidst the temperamental tech world.

“It could have been anything from the server crashing to Mark Zuckerberg unplugging the wrong computer to plug his hair-dryer in. We just don’t know,” Mr Kidman said.
