‘They’re going to go out of business’: Fishing policy backdown of no help

Jamie Burnett

The WA Government has announced a ‘catch to cook’ demersal fishing option to all charter operators in the West Coast region.

The announcement was a ‘backdown of sorts’ after news of a quota system allowing 6000 tags between only 21 approved charters was released last month.

Recfishwest Chief Executive Andrew Rowland joined Oly Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live.

“Not a single charter operator has said this change is going to stop their business from going under the new catch arrangement,” Mr Rowland said.
