Midland Police are taking matters into their own hands and using some arguable unorthodox methods to face the “scourge” of rampant shoplifting.

Business owners throughput the area have reached a level of desperation since becoming targets of “brazen” shoplifting.

“We noticed an increase in people walking in to stores, taking what they want and walking out,” Midland District superintendent Kelly Taylor told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings.

Superintendent Taylor and Senior Sergeant Jeremy Marklew said it “wasn’t anything groundbreaking”, but they are making headway using technology and community input to protect storefronts.
