Is pain all in your head? New research reveals pain is a perception not a sensation.

Pain is generated by the brain, new science shows, and is based on many different pieces of data, not just messages from the nerves.

University of Technology Sydney physiotherapy lecturer and pain scientist Dr Joshua Pate told Steve Mills on Millsy at Midday that everyone with the same amount of tissue damage could feel different levels of pain.

“There’s different types of pain, conditions and classes… and there are a whole host of different skills people can learn [to deal with pain],” he said.
