Popular probiotic drink Yakult is now the latest company to fall victim to a cyber attack with data leaked onto the dark web.

Cyber security and online identity expert, Ches Rafferty, says criminal organisations are attempting to force companies into paying ransoms.

“What we saw, for example, in Yakult is they got access to .. 95gbs of data, but that includes sensitive information like employee passports and driver licenses,” he told 6PR Breakfast.

He also says companies need to do better to protect their data.

“The level of preparation from these businesses has been quite shocking, very simple things like … so if they [Yakult] had encrypted these passport images they’re useless,” he said.
