Mario’s Pizza in Dianella has been crowned WA’s favourite takeaway for the fourth consecutive year in the annual Menulog restaurant awards.

Owner Mario Franchina said it’s a great surprise.

“I’m still getting used to it, I don’t know what to say, it’s always a surprise being four years in a row, and it’s still a surprise when I get that phone call in the morning,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

Mr Franchina said he started his career as a diesel mechanic.

“I used to go to work … at 5am, start working on an old diesel truck, get sprayed with hydraulic oil, and I’m thinking ‘ohh, this is not my life’.

“Got my ticket, disappeared and got straight into the pizza business.”
