The other reasons golfer Cam Smith joined rebel LIV Tour
Open winner and world no.2 Cameron Smith has jumped ship to join the controversial LIV Golf Tour.
The 29-year-old Queenslander’s move to the rebel tour was finally confirmed in a host of announcements made overnight by the Saudi-backed tour run by Greg Norman, with his debut this weekend at the International Golf Club outside Boston.
Australian Golf Digest editor-in-chief Brad Clifton told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast that Smith spoke to the magazine about the move, confirming financial benefits played a major role in the decision.
“Cam’s really set himself up for life… yes, it’s obviously clearly a business decision.. but he said it’s also going to present him with an opportunity to actually come home and live in Australia for three or four months of the year, because the off season for LIV Golf is somewhere between October and February,” he said.
