This week’s West Aussie Great is Mike Teraci, recipient of the Australian Fire Service Medal, the highest meritorious service award in the Australian Fire Services.

A former police officer of 10 years, and long-standing volunteer firefighter with both East and West Swan Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades, Teraci grew up in the wine region and was used to seeing fires break out as a youngster.

“I love giving back to the community and always have been… I’m even now a Justice of the Peace,” he told Mark Gibson, in for Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

“I said to Mum and Dad one day, ‘I wouldn’t mind being a volunteer firefighter’, that was in February of 1982 and the rest is history.”

Tap PLAY to hear Teraci’s story, including his role with the Macro Taskforce in relation to the Claremont serial killerĀ
