‘The Lazarus of Lazarus’: How ‘nobody’ Albo won one of our hardest-fought elections
A new book launching October 5 explores one of the hardest-fought elections in Australian history and the incredible fallout.
Victory – The Inside Story of Labor’s Return to Power also examines why the major parties will have to look over their shoulders at the Independents and the Teals, whose grip on power has never been stronger.
Author Peter van Onselen says that before the election Anthony Albanese was a largely unknown figure, his profile not helped by the COVID pandemic, despite being federal opposition leader.
“Because it overlapped with COVID he had a very low profile, the state premiers almost had the profile the federal opposition leader would normally have, and he (Albanese) sort of became a nobody,” he said.
