West Coast star Tom McCarthy has declared that “the hatred is real” as the Eagles prepare for their MCG showdown against the Magpies, revealing the side is driven by the power of negative motivation.

McCarthy, whose dislike for Collingwood is deep-rooted, told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the team is specifically focused on celebrating Harley’s 50th milestone, not Collingwood’s legendary Scott Pendlebury, who is set to play his record-breaking 433rd game.

The Eagles gun expressed his excitement to run out in front of the biggest crowd of his career and secure another win on the tally, promising a powerful performance.

“It’s a bit of fire in the belly for us, we’re going to rock up and probably show up and play one of our best games we’ve played all year or even over the last three years”, he said.

He said if they get booed, “then that’s a real win for us”.
