The Police Minister revealed that 403 officers resigned last year, with 377 new recruits, resulting in a net decrease, contrary to the government’s pledge to increase personnel by an additional 950 by mid-year.

President of the WA Police Union Paul Gale joined Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons to discuss the decrease in police recruitment numbers.

“The job is just getting tougher, and when the government aren’t acknowledging how tough it’s become by not providing the support, or work life balance, they’re looking for other avenues to make ends meet,” Mr Gale said.

“The government has well and truly failed, in their recruiting of the 950 which was supposed to come to fruition at the end of this financial year.”
