Gamblers will no longer be able to use credit cards for online betting, with the Federal Government to introduce laws banning the payment method in line with existing rules for pubs, clubs and casinos.

According to Monash University gambling researcher Doctor Charles Livingstone, 15 to 20 per cent of online gambling money transfers involve credit cards.

He told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast gamblers who use credit cards are most likely at the risk of gambling addiction.

“If you’ve got credit cards available, you may think, ‘Well, I’ve just maxed out one card, I’ll get another card and then I just need one big win,” Dr Livingstone said.
