Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called a surprise summer election, with the UK heading to an early vote on July 4.

The Conservatives have been in power for 14 years but languish behind Labor in the polls by more than 20 points.

Monash University Senior lecturer in politics Dr Ben Wellings told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings it’s still a two horse race.

“It’s difficult for the conservatives to do anything right at the moment… normally they’re really strong on the economy, but they’ve lost that perception of e3conomic competence,” Dr Wellings said.
