Teen’s life turned upside down after communication mix-up with Department of Transport

The mother of a driver who lost his licence after a mix-up in communication with the Department of Transport says the ordeal has left mental and financial scars for her family and young son.
Kerri’s son Harvey suffered a series of unfortunate events that led to having his licence suspended for nine months and a $1200 fee to free his car, which was impounded.
“He’s always known as the point of call for his friends as he doesn’t drink… he went to a party, waited for his mates in the car, they didn’t come out,” she told 6PR Afternoons host Jo McManus.

“The next minute a fight broke, police were called, the friends got in the car, they went to leave, and as they drove past, the police stopped him, and asked him why he was there… he explained, and in the same sentence he said ‘but I need to leave because my licence is going to be suspended’.”
The family tried to fight the suspension in court, at significant financial and emotional cost, turning Harvey’s life upside down.
