‘Tale of two countries’: WA roadblocks are stifling national recovery

The Business Council of Australia has called for national unity and urgent cohesive planning to regenerate key national industries in their 2022-23 budget submission.

Chief executive Jennifer Westacott urged Western Australia to get on board with Australia’s recovery from the pandemic by removing critical roadblocks.

She told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast Australia must have a unified approach if sectors such as tourism, investment and housing were to bounce back quickly, and the private sector should lead the charge.

“For about three years now we’ve been banging on about the fact that we’ve got to grow the potential of our region, and get ahead of these things,” she said.

WA in particular needed to open its borders, ease restrictions and show certainty, as the eastern states prepares to welcome international travel again.

“It’s going to be easier for me to travel to London than Perth,” she said.

“It’s a blight on our national reputation.”
