The sports-based foundation started by arguably WA’s greatest football product is calling for more funding to help maintain critical pathways for young people to reach their potential, particular in remote areas.

Stephen Michael Foundation CEO Paul Mugambwa told stand-in 6PR Afternoons host Russell Collett the foundation uses sports-based well-being, education, leadership, training and employment programs to support children and young people.

Michael (above left), the South Fremantle football legend who founded the group in 2017 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the game, told Collett the foundation helps all people, not just Indigenous.

“It’s a mixed culture out there, I’m a big believer – if you look at the way the world is going at the moment – that if we don’t start communicating a lot together and making the right choices in life, we won’t be going anywhere,” said Michael, who grew up in Kojonup.
