The State Government is planning to legislate against real estate agents’ ability to create bidding wars on rental properties in an effort to stem out-of-control property costs.

Similar laws already exist in new South Wales and Queensland, and as more and more properties become out-of-reach for many tenants the government is keen to regulate the market more stringently.

REIWA CEO Cath Hart told Millsy and Mick onĀ 6PR Breakfast tenants still needed to be wary of potentially unfair rental bidding processes.

“Something that tenants should be aware of is they shouldn’t just presume that other people won’t necessarily do that,” Ms Hart said.
