Former Socceroo and Birmingham star Stan Lazaridis has spoken of his excitement and the importance of the Matilda’s run at their home World Cup.

One of WA’s greatest round-ball products, Lazaridis spoke on Friday Night Lights of his anticipation for what the Aussie girls are doing.

“Australia looks poised to get to a semi-final. There’s a good euphoria around the ground and the country. It’s a good feeling.”

Lazaridis didn’t mix his words when speaking of the role Sam Kerr would play in a potential run to the final either.

“Put it this way. Sam Kerr; she’s not a star. She’s a superstar. These people are once in a lifetime.”

The Matildas take on Denmark in their round of 16 contest at Sydney Olympic Park tomorrow night.
