St John Ambulance has announced an independent review into its response time to an emergency call that ended in the death of a Geraldton woman.

The review comes after it took 32 minutes for paramedics to assist a 70-year-old Geraldton grandmother who rang triple zero after suffering a suspected heart attack.

The woman passed away and now St John is launching an independent review into what happened.

CEO Michelle Fyfe says a captains call was made to deny an overtime request from paramedics to assist the woman and another crew was sent instead.

Ms Fyfe expressed her deepest sympathies to the family and an independent clinical incident review will be carried out led by an emergency medicine specialist with input from WA Health.
