Ben Dawkins has declared his confidence in taking over Alannah MacTiernan’s former South West upper house seat, saying the 42 violence restraining order breach charges levelled at him should not jeopardize his mandate.

“It’s an academic argument anyway, because we don’t even know whether I’m going to be convicted of anything,” he said.

“You actually don’t discriminate against people based purely on a conviction, and I’m not saying I’m even going to get a conviction.”
