New rules which come into effect in January will see skippers under the same umbrella as road users.

Safety Manager at the Department of Transport, Laurie Evans, says there have been a few changes to the laws over the last few months.

“The big change at the moment, the law that has just changed on December 21, in regards to new, stronger, on water drug and alcohol laws and that also encompasses navigating dangerously on the waters,” he told 6PR Mornings.
