Melanoma treatment pioneers Professor Georgina Long AO and Professor Richard Scolyer AO have been named as the 2024 Australians of the Year for their passionate and committed work in researching the country’s deadliest disease.

Less than a decade ago, advanced melanoma was fatal – but thanks to the pair’s immunotherapy approach, which activates a patient’s own immune system, it has become curable.

Professor Long AO told Millsy and Karl about what the commendation means, and why their work is particularly important on days like today.
