Radio 6PR’s search for the ‘Greatest Australian of All Time’ via the Millsy at Midday program came down to a battle between cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman and wartime medical hero Sir Weary Dunlop.

The winner was selected by listeners from 16 finalists and announced on Australia Day, with Dunlop taking the crown.

His son John joined Steve Mills to accept the award and talk about his father’s history and legacy.

“I lived in WA for more than 20 years, so I’m no foreigner,” he told Mills.

“There were many West Australians in the 8th Division … that’s the connection [between Dunlop and WA].”
