A former fisheries scientist says shark numbers were previously underestimated.

Speaking with 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont, Jim Penn said enthusiast scientists had deliberately fudged the figures.

“You do get enthusiast scientists who shouldn’t be in the role who tend to bias their information and that has been a problem with white sharks, no question, it has got better in recent time,” he said.
