Shadow immigration minister takes Albanese government to task over failures with latest High Court ruling
The shadow federal immigration minister has slammed the Albanese government for failing to respond to a High Court ruling to release 80 asylum seekers from indefinite detention.
Dan Tehan says the majority of the asylum seekers fail the character test and there are no answers on what will happen to them.
“We don’t know what the government is doing to keep them safe, to keep the public safe, we don’t know who these people are,” he told Gary Adshead.

He also says the government has done nothing to prepare for the ruling.
“I don’t know whether they were just hoping the High Court would make a different decision but any proper government … would have been preparing for this eventuality and have legislation ready to go today,” he said.
