A severe weather warning is in place for Perth and surrounds as heavy rain and hail hit the state.

More than 40mm of rain has fallen in the city in the past two hours.

Conditions are particularly bad for residents north of Yanchep along the coast, and out to Moora.

Motorists are being warned of a longer commute with flooding reported in several suburbs.

Senior Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Joey Rawson told Gareth Parker showers should expect to ease into the morning.

“The main bit of it is kind of easing now, so then it’ll just ease during the morning into the afternoon, and by the afternoon we won’t see much,” he said.
