A bus driver has been killed after a crash in the Wheatbelt.

At around 7:30am, the Hino school bus left the road and slid down an embankment about 12 kilometres south of York on Gwambygine Road near Great Southern Highway.

A 56-year-old man died at the scene from injuries received in the crash. An eight year old boy who was a passenger in the bus received minor injuries.

Officers from the Major Crash are investigating and urge anyone with information, mobile phone or dash-cam vision of the crash, or of the Hino bus travelling in the area prior to the crash, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
